Oh my god. I was getting worried about tension on my hairline and was trying to find better ways to protect my curls. I'm absolutely guilty of both covering my curls when they're still wet and using a pretty tight wrap at that. Over time I'd been noticing build up/dandruff particularly on my hairline and should've put two and two together. Thank you so much for not just explaining what you're doing but the why behind what you're doing. And thank you for showing so many various options. Going to try some of these tips!

Thanks for the video. I have been washing before bed for 3 years now, diffuse and then sleep with the cast. I find my mornings so much better when I haven’t had my caffeine. I used the old Redkin curl line and I didn’t care for the results. I don’t think I would try these.

Omg I can’t believe that in the 90s I used to go to sleep with wet hair and in a pony tail. Now it makes me cringe. 😮😮 No wonder I have so many scalp issues now.

For some reason, I alllways have a hard time making my bonnet stay in place. I’m an aggressive sleeper lol, I’m a side sleeper and I move around a LOT. I’ve tried using Bobby pins and clips to keep the bonnet in place but it just hurts my hair and they end up coming out in the middle of the night somehow. I’ve even used the ones with the wide elastic band, but idk, at this point I might try the silk scarf and see if it’s any different lol

How much protein does the shampoo and conditioner have? On the low end?

I just want to say I am so grateful for how much time and effort you put into your videos. I just got back into going naturally curly after damaging it for most my life. I'm 39 and I've been watching your videos every day. Some times more than once because I multitask while watching. For 3 weeks now my curls have gotten healthier and bouncier because of you. Thanks, Gena! I wash and style my hair at night. I diffuse and root clip when it's dry. I leave the gel cast in, but don't use a bonnet, just a satin pillowcase. I usually still have a cast in the morning! Works great for my curls!

Great video! How about those caps that come with a long hose you attach the hairdryer to? (Don’t know their name). Could I use those instead of a diffuser? I have very fine hair with lots of grays and lots of frizz 😢

Diffusing my low porosity curly hair, even using the high heat setting, takes 60-90 minutes. MINIMUM. Air drying takes 12-24 hours and guarantees webbing and frizz. 😕 Wish one of these hair influencers had realistic tips for reducing the drying time frame but they don't seem to and editing magic always makes it seem like a snap. 😢

Thank you for this video. I used to a couple years back sleep with my c3 curls wet. I was a nursing assistant so I had to fully shower daily. So basically I never defused my hair. It always made my scalp sensitive and my hair a little wonky. But for 3 years now I’ve been faithful to defusing my hair. Plus with your tips I’ve definitely stepped up my curly hair routine. Thank you for another great video.

Which way would be good to sleep with long, thick curly hair? Thank you for these great videos. I do now use Moptop curly hair custard. It's amazing stuff.

Alternately, I've been using a hair net to hold my hair together without it moving around too much at night. Then put on my bonnet. That works especially after hair dries so my hair moves around less as I sleep so there's less friction.

Have you tried curlsmith style souffle? I use it plus the shine gel

The scarf always fall out so I stick with the bonnet and I have a pillowcase Blissy it came scrunchies great investment

I have a problem. I have color treated hair. I color about every 3 months. My hair I think is medium prosody and I think medium thick hair about 2 inches below my shoulders. I live in Ohio where it right now is hot and humid. My problem is after I wash my hair with verb mild, cleanse, moisture or silkience hair care pro formula hydrating shampoo, or it’s a 10 or whatever shampoo I seem to choose, it is so tangled and I can’t even get whatever conditioner I try through my hair. I have used several different shampoos and conditioners. Some conditioners I have used, verbinrich, detangle, and soften. Living proof intense moisture mask, herbal essences bio renew moisture rosemary and herbs foam conditioner, keranique volumizing keratin conditioner, tresemme silk and smooth argon oleo blend conditioner are some to name a few. Why do you think my hair is like that after I shampoo? It is so hard to get through. And what kind of gel or mousse would you suggest for me knowing what I told you about my hair. My hair is also very frizzy. Thank you for all your videos. They are very helpful. It is just so hard to figure out what products are best. I have always washed, conditioned, and fixed my hair as it was straight. But after watching some of your videos and paying more attention to my hair, it is naturally wavy. So now I am trying to figure out what products to use on it. I think I need a strong hold gel maybe.

I have fine 2c/3a coloured hair but a ton of hair. Can I mix the Not Your Mother curl cream with the Ouidad Gel? Or should I use only one. Incredibly humid out!

The TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier is a fantastic cream gel with multiple polyquat ingredients. To me, it perfoms similarly to the Ouidad weather up gel (although it has a beefier hold & slightly more moisture). It's also reasonably priced in the UK, where it's often on sale for £6.99. I can use it as a one & done, with just two pumps of product & I have pretty thick 2C hair.

Just wanted to tell u been watching u for few yrs now, u have giving me so many helpful tips! Ty! Wanted to share my recent discovery as ur hair very similar to mine. Kristen Ess clarifying shampoo, then Elvive hyaluron shampoo n conditioner then not ur mother's cream gel then moose! Great results n lasting!

For my salt and pepper course low porosity wavy hair the only thing that woks in summer is biosilk rock hard gelee! It’s crazy but that is the only on that works. I also use kinky curly not today leave in only a pea size amount. I used the Quidad strong hold gel and my hair poofed after one day so I put the biosilk gelee on top with a little water because it is thick but it did the trick not much frizz

Two things I learned from stylists. If your hair is dull or stringy, use the detox mask to allow your hair to absorb and retain moisture when styled. This makes hair shiny. Second. Apply your products to dripping wet hair, right in the shower and pulse in the products to create curl clumps. Oh, and another to try, that I love is “milking” your curls rather than scrunching the crunch. 100% dry, of course. Leaves my fine hair shiny and curls springy.

My daughter uses inexpensive gel & gets quick, beautiful results. Keeps it simple. I also have curly hair, but get it professionally blown out every month. I brush it with a wide tooth brush. It grew to my waist with no damage, limiting washing. Use dry shampoo in between. Too many products, messing with it & over washing causes damage

Hi I never used one , but my sister lives in USA, next time she is visiting us in Argentina, I might ask her to bring me one, I have a lot of frizz, after washing my hair most of the time I let it dry by itself,I don't like to use hairdryer, but any advice before purchasing (I should buy 2?) do you put it with your hair already dry or someone use it with wet hair?, any that anybody wants to share ,I really really thank you😊

I use the curl talk curl cream every wash day, and I never notice a buildup with it. I do use a clarifying shampoo once every two weeks, sometimes once a week, so that might be why. For reference, if anyone cares, I have low porosity, 2b/2c
